The Research Group in International Politics at the Universiteit Antwerpen contains an international group of 13 scholars working on three major issues: international security, esp. arms control, and proliferation; international finance and international organisations; and diplomacy (including public diplomacy and sub-state diplomacy).

Tom Sauer is Associate Professor in International Politics at the Department of Politics at the Universiteit Antwerpen (Belgium). His main research interests are arms control, proliferation, and disarmament. His latest book is titled ‘Eliminating nuclear weapons: The role of missile defense’ published by Hurst & Co/Columbia University Press (2011). Earlier, he published ‘Nuclear Inertia’ (I.B.Tauris, 2005) and ‘Nuclear Arms Control’ (Macmillan, 1998). Sauer has published articles in International Security, Journal of Strategic Affairs, European Security, Defense and Security Analysis, Third World Quarterly, Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, and many more. He was a Research Fellow at the International Security Program at BCSIA at the John F.Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, and a Visiting Fellow at the EU Institute for Security Studies in Paris. He was awarded an Individual NATO Scholarship, and a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship. Tom Sauer is member of the Pugwash Conferences on Science and International Affairs.

His latest book is titled ” Nuclear Terrorism. Countering the Threat (Routledge, 2016)”.
